Superior Septic Pros in Hawaii

Septic tanks and waste systems are one of the least appreciated technological innovations that we rely on daily, but never think about. And if you were to consider that without them, our natural environment in Hawaii would be significantly more polluted with human and household waste. Prior to having septic systems human waste just drained into our local Hawaii water supply.

An outhouse was the common option, with most of them positioned over a large pit where waste collects. Once the hole under the outhouse is full, is moved over top if a newly dug pit. It's obvious that septic systems offer a great advantage over this method.

The First Septic System The invention of the septic system is credited to John (Jean) Mouras. He built a simplistic concrete system in 1860, in the yard of his home in France. Using clay pipes, he moved the waste from the toilet room indoors to the septic tank outside. When 10 years had passed, the concrete tank was opened and discovered that only liquid remained. There was very little solids left. After considering his findings he patented the septic system in 1881. By 1883, septic systems were in America and after World War ll, prices dropped and more people were able to enjoy the benefits.

Current Considerations in Hawaii

After the Second World War, there were few if any, governing by-laws with respect to how septic systems were maintained or built. It wasnt until the 1970s that the governments and municipalities started to address and enact legislation in Hawaii ensuring at least minimum standards were met.

While septic systems were a major innovation of the era, activists are still worried about the environmental impact of some old systems in Hawaii. When septic systems fail, the result can be hazardous waste leaching into local environs, including town water and food supplies. Because of this serious and real possibility, which has lead to an abundance of by-laws and regulations regarding the proper installation and maintenance of septic waste systems by local governing bodies. Interestingly, septic only causes problems when it's not working correctly. In the vast majority of cases, septic systems fail due to improper maintenance.
